About Us
Bayside Catholic Mission incorporates the communities of St Joan of Arc Brighton, St James Gardenvale, St Mary’s Hampton, Immaculate Heart East Hampton, Sacred Heart Sandringham, St Joseph's Black Rock and Stella Maris Beaumaris. Fr David Cartwright and Fr Dean Mathieson work together 'in solidum' across these faith communities.
This new way of expressing the mission of the Church in the bayside parishes is a collaboration between faith communities and clergy. Together, we strive to meet the spiritual and pastoral needs of Catholics in the area and to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ to the people of our neighbourhoods.
"Our places of faith life and formation, our communities of pastoral outreach and charity – these local neighbourhoods of grace are the truly gospel locations for us today.” Archbishop Peter Comensoli
Our Mission
Our Vision is to build on our combined histories, peoples and heritage and create a vibrant Catholic community. We will build God's kingdom by growing as disciples and making disciples through prayer, worship, and service.
Formation
To help organise opportunities for all Catholics to receive formation in the faith. And also offer opportunities for those outside the Church seeking answers to life’s big questions.
“All the baptised, because they are called by God to maturity of faith, need and have, therefore, a right to adequate catechesis. It is thus a primary responsibility of the Church to respond to this in a fitting and satisfactory manner.”
(Directory for Catechesis 167)
Worship
To ensure that we remember that we are first and foremost we are a community of faith, and that the Eucharist is the "source and summit of the Christian life."

"God must hold first place; prayer to him is our first duty. The liturgy is the first source of divine communion in which God shares his own life with us. It is also the first school of the spiritual life.
The liturgy is the first gift we must make to the Christian people united to us by faith and the fervour of their prayers. It is also a primary invitation to the human race, so that all may now lift their mute voices in blessed and genuine prayer and thus may experience that indescribable, regenerative power to be found when they join us in proclaiming the praises of God and the hopes of the human heart through Jesus Christ and in the Holy Spirit."
(Pope Paul VI at the closing of the Second Vatican Council)
Outreach
To authentically answer our call to serve those most in need. To intentionally look for ways to serve the need of the vulnerable in our communities, and offer opportunities for parishioners to share in our outreach ministries.

"Our faith in Christ, who became poor, and was always close to the poor and the outcast, is the basis of our concern for the integral development of society’s most neglected members."
(Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium 186)
Fellowship
To offer opportunities (outside of the Liturgy) to form relationships within an authentic Christ centered community that cares for one another.
Family
To support families. Offer activities/formation for young people, including students and young adults. By creating a culture that offers opportunities for young people to be involved can be a way to engage the families of our schools.
